Here a few tips on how to plan an outdoor wedding in Italy taking into consideration the bad weather:

• Don’t just opt for the best! Choose an outdoor ceremony venue that offers a bad weather option like a shelter, or a garden gazebo.
• If there is no shelter in the vicinity, consider hiring a gazebo.
• Ask your reception to reserve an area in case the ceremony cannot be held outdoor (make sure that it will accommodate your guests and suitable for a ceremony). This should be your ‘last’ option’, as receptions don’t really have much space to accommodate ceremonies .
• For outdoor weddings, adding on your invitations your chosen ‘wet/bad weather’ option address will guarantee that all guests know where to go if it rains. Also you should have some key people from the party in charge to let the guests know that the ceremony location has moved due to bad weather using a ‘phone-chain’ type of communication.

PROCEDURE FOR OBTAINING A CERTIFICATE OF NO IMPEDIMENT (or visit www.justgetmarried.com)
(UK CITIZENS living IN AUSTRALIA)

IMPORTANT! DOCUMENTS ARE VALID FOR 180 DAYS ONLY! START THIS PROCESS NO EARLIER THAN 5 MONTHS PRIOR THE WEDDING. ALWAYS CONTACT THE AUTHORITY PRIOR STARTING TO CHECK FOR ANY CHANGES/UPDATES.
For British nationals in Australia and for those whom the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade cannot issue a CNI, the procedure below must be followed.
i) The British citizen must give public notice inserted in one edition of his/her local newspaper (in Australia).
ii) The newspaper notice should be in the following terms:
“I, [full name], bachelor/widower/divorcé, of [full address] intend to marry [full name of fiancée], spinster/widow/divorcée, of [full address] at [name and address of place where marriage is to be solemnised] on [date of marriage]. Any person knowing of any lawful impediment to the marriage should notify without delay the Consular Section, British High Commission, 39 Brindabella Circuit, Brindabella Business Park,
Canberra Airport ACT 2609.
iii) The British citizen should send the whole page of the newspaper in which the notice appears to the Consular Section in Canberra. If no objection to the marriage is received within twenty-one (21) clear days the Consular Officer in Canberra, will inform the Consular Officer in the consular district where the marriage is to take place and subject to the applicant swearing an affidavit in that consular district and producing all the necessary documentary evidence, the Consul may issue a Certificate of No Impediment.
iv) The statutory consular fee for this service is currently £35.00 (E 78), payable in local currency at the Consular office in the district where marriage is to take place.
Because Australia is a Commonwealth country, the Head of Consular Section has no powers to do Notarial acts, in contrast to a Consul in a non-Commonwealth country, who has the authority
The British High Commission in Australia forwards copies of the notices (ads) after 21 clear days (providing they have had no objections) to the nearest British mission in Italy.
Also, the couple needs to swear the affidavits (one each, sample below) in front of a Notary Public (Commissioner of Oaths) and then the British High Commission in Canberra will forward all documents to the British mission in Italy.

• Long form birth certificates (with names of parents)

An ATTO NOTORIO is an affidavit done before the Italian Consulate in USA or Australia.

Following a meeting at the Italian Consulate with 4 witnesses, the couple make a declaration relative to the civil status (single, divorced,widow etc) in front of a Consulate officiant.

The Atto Notorio must have " Repubblica Italiana" and "Consolato Generale D'Italia" written on the document, otherwise the Atto Notorio is not valid.

ATTO NOTORIO IN ITALY
The atto notorio can be also done in Italy, on arrival. If you elect to do the Atto Notorio in Italy Just Get Married will quote you for the service. Just Get Married wedding planners in Italy will handle all legalities, witnesses, appointments and interpreter.

Although possible, we discourage to have the atto notorio done in Italy, due to the difficulties in booking a suitable date/time at the local offices.

Italian Wedding Requirements for New Zealanders citizens

Marriages conducted in Italy are recognised in New Zealand provided they are in accordance with Italy’s laws. A marriage in Italy is not, however, automatically registered in New Zealand. It is not possible for a couple to remarry each other in New Zealand if they have already been married overseas. If either party is divorced, they will need to present to the Italian authorities an original or certified copy of the decree nisi or order of dissolution of marriage, together with an official translation into Italian issued by the Italian Embassy in Wellington. This applies to orders of dissolution of marriage or decree nisi issued in New Zealand. If the document was issued by the Family Court of Australia, the translation should be effected at the Italian Embassy in Canberra.
Documentation required by the New Zealand Embassy in Rome:
The Italian authorities require proof that foreigners intending to marry in Italy are not already married. This proof can be obtained by applying for a Certificate of No Impediment from the Registrar-General’s Office, P.O. Box 31-115, Lower Hutt, New Zealand (Tel: +64 4 569 4489 or Fax: +64 4 566 5311). This usually takes two weeks for the application to be processed. The processing fee is NZ$40.00 + GST. If you live in Italy, the Embassy can forward the completed application form to the Registrar of Births Deaths and Marriages for you. The fee can be paid in Euro and is currently €20.00.
Once the Embassy receives the original copy of the Certificate of No Impediment it can issue a document required by the Italian authorities called a Nulla Osta. This contains information from the Certificate of No Impediment and from the attached form that you both need to complete, sign and return to the Embassy.
Please ensure you complete the section requesting an address in Italy, even if it is a temporary address, such as a hotel. When you return the completed form, you should attach a certified copy of the biopages of your and your partner’s, passports.
The completed form and certified passport pages should not be sent by facsimile. The Embassy requires original copies.
When the Nulla Osta has been prepared, we will advise The Agency you are working with so that they may collect it. If you and your partner are New Zealanders, a Consular Certificate will also be supplied by the Embassy. The Embassy currently charges €23.00 processing fee for the Nulla Osta and €20.00 for courier fee within Italy. The fees should be sent (together with documentation) to the Embassy by bank draft (in Euro), made out to the New Zealand Embassy.
Once you have the documents provided by the Embassy, we will take them to be legalised at the Prefettura (section of the Italian Department of Internal Affairs) in Rome or in the town/city nearest to or where you plan to get married.
Particular Consulates do not follow the above procedures; you will be advised by Just Get Married Wedding Planner on the exact steps that need to be followed.
PLEASE NOTE that Italian law states that at least 300 days must pass before a woman can remarry if she was previously divorced.

Getting married in Italy can be a wonderful experience! However, as with most weddings, the process can also involve stress and anxiety, especially for Americans who are not acquainted with the appropriate rules. Americans wishing to be married in Italy must furnish the appropriate Italian authorities certain documents and comply with specific requirements in order to obtain a marriage license. The process is time consuming, as it involves several different offices in various parts of the city, which are open to the public only a few hours per day. Make sure you book an experience legal wedding expert like Just Get Married in Italy , to assist with the legal paperwork!
First Things First!!!
There a few things you will need to do before arriving in Naples:
1.Obtain American passport.
2.Obtain an original birth certificate that contains the names of your parents.
3.Send the original birth certificate to the appropriate office to be authenticated for use in Italy. If born in the United States, you must send the original birth certificate to the office of the Secretary of State of the state in which you were born to receive an “Apostille” stamp, which authenticates official documents for use in Italy.
4.Obtain document of termination of any previous marriage, i.e. divorce or annulment decree or death certificate of previous spouse.
5.Send the document of marriage termination to the office of the Secretary of State of the state in which the marriage termination occurred to be authenticated by the Secretary’s office with an “Apostille” seal.
6.Translate the original birth certificate and the document of marriage termination into Italian. Note: Call the nearest Italian Consulate in the United States, or wherever you may be outside of Italy, to get details on proper methods of translating documents.
Visit the Italian Consulate
Before arriving in Italy, you must go to the nearest Italian Embassy/Consulate outside of Italy to accomplish the following:
1.Authenticate the translation of the original birth certificate and the document of marriage termination.
2. Four witnesses who know you well must execute an affidavit (Atto Notorio) before an Italian Consul in the United States, or wherever you may be outside of Italy, certifying that there is no obstacle to your marriage. Note: The affidavit can also be executed in Italy, at any lower court (Prefettura) or before an Italian notary public (notaio). However, we advise you to obtain this declaration before coming to Italy because it is probably easier to find witnesses in your place of residence who know your marital status.
At the American Consulate

The following service will be performed at the American Consulate:
The creation of a sworn statement (dichiarazione giurata) sometimes called a Nulla Osta, declaring before an American Consular Officer that, according to the laws of the state or other jurisdiction in which you reside, there is no obstacle to your marriage.
Immediately after the Consulate – apostille on nulla osta*
After signing the Sworn Statement at the Consulate, it must be authenticated with an Apostille seal at the Ufficio Legalizzazioni of the Prefettura. There is a charge of 14.63 euro for this service in the form of administrative stamps. These can be purchased from any of the Tobacco shops in the area.
COURIER SERVICE FOR APOSTILLE ON NULLA OSTA (highly recommended): a courier service can be organized to legalise the nulla ostas (apostille) on your behalf in Italy (fees apply). The courier will meet with you at the embassy after you have obtained the nulla osta, take the nulla ostas at the prefettura, legalise them and take them to the town hall on your behalf. DISCLAIMER: We cannot stress enough that: Unless you are familiar with Italy/Italian office structures/italian transport system/Italian LANGUAGE (crucial to ask for directions/questions and understand the reply!) how and where to purchase the marca da bollo (revenue stamps), we highly recommend to book this service! Deciding to legalise your nulla ostas without a courier service is at your solely and own risk.
Your Visit to City Hall
· The town hall is pre-booked and secured prior your arrival in Italy by Just Get Married.
· Once the nulla osta is ready and apostilled, you need to take it to the town hall at least 7 days prior the wedding.
· our coordinator will meet you at the chosen town hall for a pre-wedding appointment, showing you around the town hall and deliver on your behalf all documents and nulla osta to the right authorities in Italy prior the wedding.
Please ensure you possess all of the following documents:

APOSTILLE ON MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE
For US citizen an apostille must be attached to the marriage certificate. We provide you with this service, and once the apostille is ready, the marriage certificate will be posted at your home address. (fees apply, see contract/booking form for details).

CIVIL CEREMONY in Italy (Irish Citizens)
The following documents are required to proceed with a wedding in Italy; Photocopies of documents are not legally valid except in the case of your passport which you will need to travel.

List of documents:
Original full length birth certificates
Original no impediment certificate issued by the Department of Foreign Affairs
Photocopy of current passport
Completed witness form if required
The no impediment certificate is obtained from the department of foreign affair. We recommend applying for this a couple of months before you intend to marry as it takes about 6 week to process. This certificate states that you are free to marry. You may also need to be aware that two witnesses will be required for your ceremony and photocopies of their passport will also need to be sent, along with your documentation. Witnesses can be arranged by our wedding planner in Italy if required.
Charges may be incurred for this service. Witnesses must be over 18.
FOR CATHOLIC CEREMONY in italy (Irish Citizens)
You will need to see your local parish priest to gain his and the bishop’s permission to marry abroad. You will then be given a religious no impediment certificate. In addition, you will be probably required to attend a premarital course at your church, however your priest will inform you of exactly how to proceed. List of documents:
Certificate of baptism
Certificate of confirmation
Religious no impediment certificate
This documents, together with all those required for the civil ceremony, need to be sent to our office no later than 7 weeks prior the wedding date; this will be processed at the Irish Consulate and with the Bishop by our wedding planner.

Wedding Requirements for Australian citizens getting married in Italy

BEFORE ARRIVING IN ITALY

Before leaving Australia, you need to obtain an Atto Notorio (sworn declaration) from the Italian Embassy or Consulate in Australia in the state where you reside. Make sure you travel with your Australian passport. If you were married before, bring evidence of the termination of the previous marriage. If you are widowed, you must bring the death certificate of your previous spouse. Certificates can be obtained from the Registrar of Births, Deaths and Marriages.

ONCE IN ITALY

In addition to the Atto Notorio, an Australian citizen intending to get married in Italy will need to make a Statutory Declaration (Nulla Osta). This Statutory Declaration must be signed whether you are single, divorced or widowed and you will do so in the presence of an Australian Consular officer at the Australian Embassy in Rome or Australian Consulate-General in Milan- A Nulla Osta literally states that "there are no impediments," or that one is free to marry. The Nulla Osta (Statutory Declaration) is valid for six months and, costs of approx A$50.00 in euros currentcy, per Australian Citizen. The Nulla Osta must then be legalised by the Uffico Legalizzazioni of the Prefettura. Nulla Osta and legalization can be done during the same morning. If you did not obtain an Atto Notorio prior to coming to Italy or you currently reside in Italy, the Atto Notorio can be executed in Rome or Milan. If this is the case we will need to make an appointment. There is a cost that might vary to do this and includes fees, taxes, stamps, necessary witnesses and assistant.

CIVIL CEREMONY

when required by the local authorities, we will set an appointment with the Wedding Hall authorities, about two days before the wedding. At this time, you will make a Declaration of Intent to Marry. Sometimes the appointment for the Declaration and Wedding may fall on the same day. If one or more of the parties is Italian or is an Australian with Italian residency, then Banns (pubblicazione di matrimonio) must be posted for at least two weeks before the date of the marriage. Particular Consulates do not follow the above procedures; you will be advised by your Wedding Planner on the exact steps that need to be followed. The Italian law states that at least 300 days must pass before a woman can remarry if she was previously divorced.

Wedding Music in Italy: what is SIAE TAXES

Unless you have already booked music for your wedding in Italy, you may be surprised to find out that, for italian weddings, playing live music or music in general in public places in Italy , such a wedding venue, a villa or a restaurant attract, what italians call, SIAE taxes.

SIAE taxes are nothing more that loyalties that you have to pay to the original singer/musician/composer's songs you will be using at your wedding in Italy.

Music SIAE taxes must be paid by any couple who wishes to have music at their italian wedding reception, regardless the choice of musicians/music or if you use live musicians, a DJ or simply a PA system. Don't be surprised if neither a musician or a wedding planner can confirm this cost on the spot! in fact, SIAE taxes for weddings in Italy vary and it is calculated by the local council based on a combination of different factors: the chosen music/musicians, the list of songs you will be playing, the coverage, the number of guests and the council where the wedding takes place.

To give you an idea, it can be anything between Euros 100 to Euros 300. The good news is that SIAE taxes are not requested for church or ceremony music as long as the couples who is getting married in Italy, chooses Classic music from previous centuries! Wedding bouquets in Italy come in a variety of shapes or styles. The below descriptions cover the most common wedding bouquet styles. Before you make your final decision on the style of bouquet you want, you should consider the logistics of holding it (large bouquets can be very heavy!) as well as what is going to suit your size and shape and the style of your wedding dress. For example if you are petite, a large bouquet might overwhelm you whereas a small nosegay bouquet might look completely out of proportion if you are tall.
Arm Bouquet

TIP NO.1
Never underestimate the sun’s power!
Unless you are aiming for the builder tan look, WEAR sunscreen!
We cannot stress this point enough! On a regular basis a bride will turn up on her wedding day with a burned face, and sun burnt lines!
There is no miracle cream to make them fade away on the day. They will be visible on the day, on your video and your photos!
- Use Sunscreen in hot/warm climates for at least 4 weeks leading to the wedding or as soon as you arrive to your wedding destination. In Australia, all you need is a 10 minutes stroll to get burnt, regardless the season ( sunny or overcast conditions).
- All sunscreens are good as long as they have 30+ UVA and UVB protection.
- Sunscreen are effective only if applied 20 minutes prior exposure or going out. To make it easier, swap your daily body cream with sunscreen and apply in the morning after a shower.
- To continue to be effective, Apply sunscreen evenly and regularly! sunscreen must be applied every 2 hours (even if the instructions says 4 hours protection! as sweat and clothes rubbing reduces the effect)

Important changes for NON-EU citizens getting married in Italy or traveling to Italy

From 08.08.09, Non-EU nationals who wish to get married in Italy together with a nulla osta must provide proof of regular stay/entry in Italy (i.e. passport entry stamp, VISA, or copy of registration submitted form signed at the hotel where they stay). without this proof the Italian town halls will not allow non-EU nationals to get married in Italy.
A non-EU nationals must:
enter through an official border crossing point;
hold a valid passport or equivalent travel document authorizing them to cross the border;
hold an entry or transit visa, if required;
not be listed in the Schengen Information System as an inadmissible person;
not be considered to be a threat to public order, national security, public health, or international relations;
have sufficient means of subsistence to cover their intended stay and return to their country (showing a return ticket is sufficient proof).
Foreigners seeking to enter Italy are subject to checks by border, customs, currency, and health authorities.
Entry may be refused at the border, even if a valid entry or transit visa is held, if all of the above requirements are not met.
Foreigners who stay in Italy for visits, business, tourism or study for periods not exceeding 3 months are not required to apply for a residence permit.
If foreign citizens have arrived from non-Schengen states, they should report their presence to the border authorities when entering Italy and the border authorities will put a uniform Schengen stamp on their travel documents.
If foreign citizens have arrived from other Schengen states, they should report their presence to the local Questura (central police station in the province) filling out the relevant form within 8 days of their arrival in Italy.
For foreigners staying in a hotel, evidence of their presence is the registration form submitted to the hotel management and signed by the foreign guests on arrival. The hotel will provide a copy of this form to the foreign guest who can show it to police officers, if requested.

Sala Rossa town hall, Campidoglio, wedding ceremony venue in Rome Euros 1,400 (weekends only)

Caracalla town hall, Via Valle delle Camene, wedding Ceremony venue in Rome Euros 1,200 (weekdays - no tue) and weekends E 1,400

Villa Lais town hall, wedding ceremony venue in Rome Euro 1,200 (mon and fri only) and E 1,400 (sat only)

Ceremony venues in Rome are still free of charge for residents.

BOOKING requirements: Roman town hall requires foreigners to provide a nulla osta to book a date and time at the chosen roman town hall.

If you have a close friend or you are at a second time round, you know that organizing a wedding is hard work. Getting someone else to take care of it with your same passion and determination to get ‘your’ wedding abroad right, is the most important aspect in selecting your very own personal wedding assistant in Italy ! Only an experienced wedding planner in Italy has the tool and experience to do that on your behalf!
When searching for a wedding planner in Italy, don’t just compare quotes! Italy has seen a huge number of wedding planners businesses opening in the last few years to a ‘new trend’ ad campaign ‘scam’ that promise to people to become a wedding planner with a 8 hours course held to 60 or more at each course!
No-one can be a wedding planner in 8 hours. It requires a minimum of 3 years experience in the field to even considering to successfully operate such a business.
Italy has now a huge crowd of inexperienced, first time wedding planners, a term and job that until 2 years ago Italians didn’t even know the meaning. They may offer you false credentials and low prices just to get some experience on the field to your expense. We had new italian wedding planners that stole our clients photos and testimonials text from our websites and sent them to unaware couples! Thankfully we found this out through an enquirer and stop them, but please BE AWARE! Don’t be afraid to ask for testimonials and direct contacts/names/details of such testimonials, how many years they have been operating, previous weddings feedback etc, or you ended up to have a wedding in Italy to remember for all the wrong reasons!
Also, ask if you are booking a registered wedding planner (as we are), a travel or booking agency (most of the online planners are travel agents or booking agencies). A Travel or booking agency is nothing but a sale person! They are selling you a product, and pass you to a local unknown planner after you book them, and the sale commission will be hidden in the quote. An easy test to see if you have contacted a booking agency is to check the planner’s email address setting when he/she answers to you .If she/he has an address as name@hotmail.com or name@fastweb.com or any other website after the @, which is NOT the website you have sent the enquiry from, you are in contact with a booking agency. A genuine registered wedding planner should have a web email address, with the name as per the website. Legal Marriages in Italy for foreigners - Documents required

Before the marriage can be celebrated in Italy, the Italian authorities, in this case the COMUNE (Town Hall) normally require a Nulla Osta (Certificate of No Impediment) to be produced. This certificate is issued by the your Consulate for the area in Italy where you intend to marry.

Documents vary depending on yours and your fiance' citizenship, status and residenty although the basic documents to obtain a nulla osta are:

· Full birth certificate (showing parents' names)

· Passport (photocopy of data page if you are applying from outside of Italy);
· If applicable, Certificate of No Impediment issued by the local Registra
· Evidence of termination of any previous marriage of both parties, if applicable, (i.e. death certificate or divorce decree absolute) together with the previous marriage certificate. · A deed poll or statutory declaration if the name of your birth/adoption certificate differs from that on your passaport (except if this is following marriage);
